Greetings from Belize! This small country hides great treasures. Today we had a day full of adventures … We started visiting the archaeological reserve of Nohoch Che’en. After half an hour walk through the jungle, we descend the Sibun River with a rubber ring- tires, crossing five limestone caves, a total of 7 kilometers of spectacular stalactites and stalagmites that have been formed over thousands of years. In these caves many Mayan relics have been found, as they felt these caverns were the entrance to the underworld and so they held their rites here. After the descent, we visited the “Baboon Sanctuary” where we met a family of black howler monkeys, a very endangered species. To celebrate our adventures we made a toast with a coconut with rum, prepared by our Rastafarian guide! I hope you enjoy the pictures =)
Saludos desde Belice! Este pequeño país esconde grandes tesoros. Hoy hemos tenido un día de aventuras… Para empezar, hemos visitado la reserva arqueológica de Nohoch Che’en. Tras media hora de caminata por la jungla, hemos bajado el río Sibun con unos flotadores- neumáticos, atravesando 5 cuevas de piedra caliza, un total de 7 kilómetros de espectaculares estalactitas y estalagmitas que se han formado durante miles de años. En estas cuevas se han encontrado numerosas reliquias mayas, pues consideraban estas grutas como entrada al mundo subterráneo y celebraban aquí sus ritos. Después visitamos el “Baboon Sanctuary” donde conocimos a una familia de monos aulladores negros, una especie en peligro de extinción. Para celebrar nuestras aventuras brindamos con un coco con ron, preparado por nuestro guía rastafari! Espero que os gusten las fotos =)
