This week we have received the visit of someone very special … His Holiness Pope Francis came to Washington DC, on his first official trip to the United States.
I was fortunate to see him last summer at the Vatican, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to see him again on this special trip. On Wednesday 23, he was received by President Barack Obama and First lady Michelle Obama at the White House. After his speech, Francis made a tour aboard the “Popemobile” around the Ellipse. It was exciting to see him in the United States, and especially feel the love and energy of so many people cheering him up.
On Thursday, we were invited to the Capitol, where Pope Francis gave a Historic speech. Through the figures of Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day, he addressed issues such as the abolition of the death penalty, the religious freedom, the compassion and respect for immigrants, the need of combating arms sales, the importance of caring for our planet and fight climate change. It was a clear, simple and very inspiring speech. It was magical to witness this moment, and receive his blessing from the balcony. I had to get up early, because we needed to be there at 5am, but definitely it was worth it. I hope you like the pictures.

Estos días hemos recibido la visita de alguien muy especial… Su Santidad el Papa Francisco ha venido a Washington DC, en su primer viaje oficial a Estados Unidos.
Ya tuve la suerte de verle el verano pasado en el Vaticano, pero no quería perder la oportunidad de verle de nuevo en este viaje tan especial. El miércoles 23, fue recibido por el Presidente, Barack Obama y la primera dama, Michelle Obama, en la Casa Blanca. Tras su discurso, Francisco efectuó un recorrido a bordo del “Papamóvil”, alrededor del Elipse. Fue muy emocionante verle en Estados Unidos, y sobre todo sentir el amor y la energía de tantas personas presentes.
Este jueves, fuimos invitados al Capitolio, donde el Papa Francisco dio un discurso histórico. A través de las figuras de Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Merton y Dorothy Day, abordó temas como la abolición de la pena de muerte, la libertad religiosa, la compasión y el respeto por los inmigrantes, la lucha contra la venta de armas, la importancia de cuidar nuestro planeta y luchar contra el cambio climático. Fue un discurso claro, sencillo y muy inspirador. Fue mágico poder presenciar este momento, y recibir su bendición desde el Balcón.
